Lumagen VisionPro SDI
We are now pleased to announce the imminent availability of an SDI (Serial Digital Interface) option for the Lumagen Vision Pro scaler. SDI is a broadcast standard digital video transmission. DVD player manufacturers are unable to build machines that have this output as standard though as it has no copy protection specified. There are however many suppliers of aftermarket modifications for many suitable players. We can put you in touch with dealers of these devices.
SDI modified DVD players take the digital picture information direct off the player immediately after the MPEG decoder chip. This information is then serialised and sent out of the player down a single 75 Ohm co-ax cable to a suitably equipped display device or video processor.
The advantage of this signal is that the video goes through less digital to analogue and analogue to digital conversions. This results in more detailed image with less artefacts. Below are some simplified flow diagrams:
