First, I want to thank Gordon from Convergent for taking the time to set up the Lumagen forum site - Something we have been wanting to do for some time, but just never got done.
We have come a long way from our first Beta release, thanks in large part to all the Beta testers that have given us lots of great feedback on what we have done right, and what's not so right about our products.
We have suffered through a lot more issues with vendors chips than we expected, given we had worked with these vendors before, but are closing in on production release. That's not to say we haven't had our own software/hardware bugs to deal with, of course.
Please know that we take all your feedback very seriously and will continue to do our best to correct bugs, and to seriously consider requests for new features.
Also, we realize that even after production release there will be bugs and new features to discuss.
So, please use this forum to give us feedback and to make new feature suggestions - or even new product suggestions.

LUMAGEN ANNOUNCES RadianceXDTM POWERED BY HQV™

Beaverton, OR—(Sept 6, 2005)— Lumagen Inc. announced today that it is developing the RadianceXD, incorporating the advanced Realta HQV™ video processing engine. The Lumagen RadianceXD is slated for release in the second quarter of 2006. It will be the perfect companion for any commercial or home theater application wanting to use the award-winning HQV powered by Teranex processing. Lumagen’s own processing and calibration technology is combined with the Realta HQV to provide the ultimate home theatre experience.
“Working with Lumagen is truly exciting for Silicon Optix because both companies firmly believe in providing the pinnacle of image quality for the home theater set up,” said Dennis Crespo, VP of Marketing at Silicon Optix. “It’s a great match of video expertise, and in the end the consumer ultimately benefits from years of invention and refinement.”
“Lumagen products provide exceptional video quality, and that’s exactly why we decided to design around the Realta HQV video processor for our new flagship product,” said Jim Peterson, President and CTO of Lumagen Inc. “Realta HQV gives our new box a taste of Hollywood so that our customers can heighten their home theater experience each time they turn it on.”
The RadianceXD will sport 10 video inputs, and two independent HDMI outputs. The video input complement includes six HDMI, two SD/ED/HD analog and two SD/ED analog inputs. Composite and SVideo sources are processed with a 3D comb-filter for the best possible image from off-air and analog-cable channels. In addition there are 6 SPDIF, 2 TOS-Link and 4 stereo analog audio inputs with two independent SPDIF outputs. Audio is also supported on all HDMI inputs and outputs. Together these features allow the RadianceXD to act as a 10 by 2 audio/video crossbar switch, making it ideal for even the most sophisticated home and commercial applications. The first output is from the Realta HQV processor. The second output can be independently selected from any of the ten video inputs or a copy of the first output.
The RadianceXD provides extremely fast switching by using an independent input decoder for each of its ten inputs. Unlike other video processors that can take up to several seconds to sync when a new digital input is selected, the RadianceXD actively samples all inputs, including HDCP encryption, so it can switch inputs immediately.
The RadianceXD incorporates a true 10-bit video processing pipeline with the Realta HQV at its core. The Realta HQV provides full four-field motion adaptive video deinterlacing for both standard definition and high definition signals, temporal-recursive noise reduction, automatic multi-cadence detection, and pixel-based detail enhancement. Lumagen’s own calibration, and video processing algorithms are used to complement and enhance the already stellar Realta HQV processing. The RadianceXD provides the most extensive set of video calibration features available, allowing the image to meet the critical color accuracy requirements of even the most demanding theater application.
Pricing and availability
The Lumagen RadianceXD will be available in 2Q 2006 and has a MSRP of $5999 US. To learn more about the RadianceXD visit the company’s website at www.lumagen.com

Lumagen, Inc. a leader in video processor technology is announcing a new line of HDMI extender products. The first products in the series are a HDMI to CAT-6 extender, and a HDMI to HDMI repeater.
Jim Peterson, Lumagen’s President, stated “We decided to add HDMI extender products to our portfolio because we had so many calls from our dealers about the failure of competitive HDMI extender products to work reliably. Our HDMI extender products are designed to be the most robust, and reliable, in the industry. Our HDMI extenders are already proving themselves by solving HDMI transmission issues in systems where other well regarded competitive products have failed.”
The HDMI-CAT6 extender provides buffering not only for the video signals but also the DDC control signals, allowing reliable transmission distances at 1080p60 of over 50 meters total distance from source to destination. Many competitive products buffer video in the receiver only, and have no buffering at all for the DDC signals used for the HDCP/EDID interface. Lumagen estimates that about 1/3 of the support calls it receives concerning the failure of competitive HDMI extenders relate to the failure of the HDCP/EDID signals. To overcome this limitation Lumagen buffers both the video and control signals in both the transmitter and receiver boxes. This means the HDMI input cable to the transmitter box is isolated and buffered from the CAT cable between the transmitter and receiver which in turn is isolated and buffered from the receivers output HDMI cable. This design increases the maximum reliable transmission distance from the source to the destination device. Lumagen has demonstrated reliable operation in the lab with 30 meters of HDMI 1.3 cable from the source to the HDMI-CAT6 transmitter, plus 30 meters of CAT6 cable from the transmitter to the receiver, plus a 2-meter HDMI cable from the receiver to the display, at 1080p60.
The HDMI-HDMI repeater can recover and buffer HDMI signals using 30 meters of 22 AWG HDMI cable. Like the Lumagen HDMI-CAT6 product, the HDMI-HDMI repeater buffers both video and control signals, maximizing reliable cable length.
The HDMI-CAT6 is in production and available immediately. The HDMI-HDMI is slated for July production.

Lumagen has taken this strong position in the video processing market using its proprietary software and hardware algorithms to provide the best quality, setup features, and calibration in the industry.

Although it's far older than the latest firmware release, it may be related to:
http://www.convergent-av.co.uk/forum/index.php?t=msg&th= 84&start=0&rid=39&S=9fb9dd9b701f1c562831849703a1 7bf3
A while back, I emailed Patrick about seeing an image doubling sometimes. I thought it might be an intermittent problem then. I see the image on the left side of my screen, slightly bigger than halfway down. The image then repeats on the right half of the screen, right next to it. There's some messed up parts to them, but they're identical in that regard. It's kind of hard to explain, so I'll try to find a digital camera and take a picture.
My relevant setup:
Lumagen HDP
Sanyo Z2 projector
Motorola DC6200 cable box on DVI #1 (set to output 1080i)
After fiddling this weekend, I have the problem isolated. This happens consistently when:
1. I tune the cable box to a station that broadcasts 720p natively.
2. I switch from that input to another (let's say, DVI #2 for my PC).
3. I switch back.
I have no idea why this happens. The cable box gives me the option of converting everything to 1080i or 720p (there is no option for native), so these channels should be coming in as 1080i. And according to the OK button, they are (with the new firmware, that's now working for my PC, so I assume that it's working in general). And again, only for channels originally broadcast in 720p:
ABC
ESPN
Fox (for football)
If I tune to CBS, then try this exercise, the problem doesn't occur. If I set the cable box to output 720p, it doesn't occur for any channel.
If anyone has ideas about this, like what to test, lemme know.
Thanks much,
-Dom

wow this was the easiest and smoothest setup I have ever done with any scaler. The lumagen HDP pro has fantastic ease of use, out of the box I was up and running in no time. I have gone though many scalers and I must say the HDP Pro produces the best picture I have ever seen. The hd component inputs are perfect. deep black levels, the best transcoding I have ever seen from my comcast hdtv box. SDI rock solid, solid output timings, quick responsive menus, I am very happy with the Lumagen. Thank you very much for producing a quality product and standing behind it with superb customer service.

Copy of post from Pat about where he's at on this subject.
Hi, yes the Lumagens accept 480i (and 576i) over HDMI and it does work with an HD Tivo as we have one in the lab we test with. The 480i/576i was a recent feature addition and only 480i was working as of the 012705 release. We'll probably be posting an update tomorrow that fixes 576i and has been working with a Pioneer Elite and Arcam DVD players with 480i/576i over HDMI. See the update section at www.lumagen.com for the new release.

Me again...
I'm running my HDP locked in Video Mode, and all appears to be very well.
This may appear a stupid question, but what uses Film Mode (Auto).
I watched Black Hawk Down on Channel five, last night in Video mode, and it was outstanding. No problems.
Are films that are broadcast on TV altered so that they are in Video mode.
I was under the impression that I would need to switch back to Auto mode, when something is shot in Film mode, but up to now, I haven't seen anything that requires this yet?
It's more than likely that I don't know what I'm looking for on a broadcast, but I'm more than happy with being locked to Video mode for the time being...
Do the broadcasters still use Film mode, and if so what programmes use it?
Anyone have any similar experiences?
Cheers, Lee

Is it possible to use the Lumagen HDP RS232 with some sort of wireless connection to my PC ?
Its a bit of a pain having to disconeect my PC and lump it downstairs to perform the firmware updates so does anybody know if there is a wireless option ?
I have found the link below which is US based, would something similar to this link be available in the UK and would it actually do the job ?

I'm still trying to get a handle on the sequence causing this but I'll mention it now.
While watching a PAL DVD on MEMA (well, MEMC due to AUTO IND) at 50 I selected MEMB and the HDP switched to 60 (which is what MEMB is) before then changing to MEMD and back to 50.
After this the top few scanlines (maybe 3 or 4, hard to say) became rapidly cycling solid primary colours .. by rapidly I mean many changes per second. This remained even though I selected different inputs, only a re-boot cured it.
These coloured lines only occured in the image part of the frame, ie. in 4:3 mode the sidebars weren't affected and switching back and forth between 4:3 and 16:9 changed their length accordingly.
Interestingly perhaps the non-disappearing 'Welcome' text I reported earlier started to happen, the message had gone normally when I had first activated the HDP.

Just wanted to add do up a list of possible features that everyone would like added to new firmware from Lumagen. Perhaps Patrick or someone from Lumagen could comment if they are feasible or already in the list to be added?
1. Option to turn on the smaller zoom increments with 5% as a standard and the other with zoom increments of 1%/2%/3%/4%/5%/10%/15% and then continuing at 5%. Would help getting the right zoom for poorly mastered DVDs without losing too much picture.
2. More descriptive menus. Most of us are familiar with the menus but I was wonder why the menus seem to be stuck with 4 letter words. Even the zoom descriptions are Z1, Z2, Z3 when it would have been better describe as Zoom 1, Zoom 2, Zoom 3.
3. Possibility of adding DCD-I like processing to reduce diagonal jaggies for Video deinterlacing. This seem to be the main drawback in Video deinterlacing as compared to DCD-I processors.
Anyone else would like anything else added that are not already in the list Gordon had done up some time earlier?

Patrick,
Somewhere along the way I have lost the ability using the TOPL to get the whole picture at the top. I have lost about 3-4 pixels at the top. I can adjust up but it is totally blank. I have a 1:1 pixel on my Pio 43MXE-1 as tested on the TPAT on the lumagen. Any ideas?
Also wonder if you could comment on possibility of adding these into future firmwares?

Hi,
I just setup the output of the Lumagen DVI to 1400 x 1050 to match my projector's native display. Since one of the recommended refresh rates for DVI on my projector is 60.02, I have set it at that and it seems to work fine.
However, I have no idea what to set the rest of the timings to such as the VSYNC, VFRN, HSYNC and HFRN as they are still at the defaults for 720p (where I started).
If anyone is using this unit with a 1400 x 1050 native projector like the JVC SX21 or Canon Realis and knows what to set these to, I would appreciate their posting.
Thanks,
Russell

It seems that the latest update has reintroduced a problem of occasional frame dropping on SKY satellite TV (PAL) and NTSC DVD. The problem was more or less solved by the 040705 update. Any ideas? By the way, I've never had any problem when playing PAL DVDs and still don't.
