Hi folks,
Perhaps that question was asked before, but for us Apple/Mac fans is there any hope to eventually run the updates from our Mac laptops?
Greetings,
TomTom

Hello and Hi,
Following your suggestions I installed SUN's 'VirtualBox' running with Windows XP on my Mac. It works marvelously. Thanks for this tip.
Now I am faced with a rather trivial problem, and that is to find a suitable USB-RS232 Nullmodem cable/adapter compatible with USB 2. There are countless types and versions, but all are restricted to USB 1.1. In fact the one that I blindly bought off shelf has this problem and doesn't work with my MacBook.
Would anyone know off-hand what is the right adapter to buy and where? Google gives me many options ranging from 5 to 150 US$, but with little tech info behind them.
Thanks for another good suggestion.
Greetings,
TomTom

I'm not sure why a 1.1 adapter would be a problem, since 2 is backward compatible with 1.1?
Also, you will probably need to buy the inverter (the 'null' part) separately, I don't think any of the USB to RS232 adapters include the null inversion.
In any case, I highly recommend this model:
http://www.commfront.com/USB-Serial-Adapters-Converters/USB- Serial-Adapter-Converter.htm
Not the cheapest, not the most expensive either. I used to have a cheap one, and updates would fail pretty regularly. Haven't had a single update or config download fail using the new one. Not a single one. Unfortunately, it looks like you're going to pay just as much in shipping fees as for the item itself But again, this little gadget is just foolproof.

Good morning, Dave.
Thanks for your prompt answer to my request. In fact, what you describe is exactly what I was afraid of. Furthermore, I also thought (and still believe) that USB 2 is down-compatible with 1.1. But the unit I bought and properly installed is not recognized by the system nor listed under Hardware devices. Hence no more fooling around, I'll get the one you proposed. That puts me on the safe side.
Wish you a nice day and many thanks again.
Cheers,
TomTom

I don't know why but some USB to serial adaptors just don't work with some devices.
In UK I recommend this
www.easysync.co.uk
part number
US232R-10 : Premium ** GOLD ** USB-RS232 Adapter cable ( 10cm )

Hi again everybody,
Thanks for your continued help and support.
The CommFront adapter is now ordered in the US. Meanwhile I can still, should the necessity arise, update the Radiance with the old PC from my neighbor.
Many greetings from Switzerland.
